Vroni Holzmann to open Live in Leith
German musician, Vroni Holzmann will open Live in Leith on Thursday 25th and Saturday 27th August.
Classically trained Bavarian musician, Vroni takes a light-hearted look at the culture and traditions of Bavaria. She will guide you through all things Bavarian, from the art of beer drinking, to German-style dating. Your chance to clap, yodel and whoop along to traditional Bavarian songs, all played on Vroni’s accordion. Prepare to link arms with your partner, jump on seats and get down with the Bavarians.
“… wonderfully dead-pan … I thoroughly enjoyed clapping, yodelling and whooping along to traditional Bavarian songs, all played on Vroni’s accordion.” — Rhiannon Smith, Three Weeks
Throughout the Fringe, Vroni will be playing her upright piano on the streets of Edinburgh – on a sunny day look out for her playing Boogie Woogie, Stride and Rags in the Meadows. She has also recently released her first classical piano album, Wandelung, a collaboration with artist Karl Sylvester.
For more information about Vroni’s travels around the fringe please visit: www.vronionline.net or www.wandelung.net. Live in Leith tickets are available now, visit the Live in Leith page to find out more.

'This event brings together Screen Bandita , a collective with a passion for giving abandoned film a new lease of life, artist Izzy Bocchetti, Oxford-based performance poet Jay Bernard, and Irish author and playwright Mia Gallagher. Expect an optical and aural extravaganza that will blur the boundaries between experimental and documentary themes. Fast-paced, edgy and unexpected, this event will show what happens when you get a whole spool of creativity, past and present, and thread it all together. We can't wait!
We're also pleased to announce that musician Vroni Holzmann will be serenading, entertaining and enthralling us during this event.'

Mean Ronnie Woodman has come from far to entertain the crowd with grumpy Blues. His hitsong 'The Sorry Blues' is top of the miserable blues charts. After his act there are rumoured to be Bavarian maidens in town to cheer the crowd up and entertain with beer drinking songs and activities..
Vroni Holzmann continues to run a project for women who are finding that being a mother can be challenging in many different ways:
"If you are feeling life with a baby or toddler is a struggle, then come along to this event. The drop-in day will provide you with a free photo session and print, an image of your child to cherish for many years. There will also be the chance to speak to like-minded mums who may be facing similar challenges.
You may be a lone parent like me, or face difficulties with ill health, you may be a very young or older mum, have trouble bonding with your child or simply feel it all can be too much some times. There are many more reasons for a mother to feel run-down or isolated and I would like to provide those mothers with a service they may be too busy to organise or unable to afford.
If this is of interest to you, please get in touch with me or just drop in on the day."

Vroni will have her piece 'looking for something that isn't there' for bass clarinet, piano and string quartet performed at this show case of compositional avantgarde (her composition study mates). This event will be recorded and broadcast by the BBC.

This lovely brunchtime event always offers great food and acoustic music in a relaxed athmosphere. It is a free event. This time it is themed 'Wiedervereinigung' as the German unification is 20 years past. This made them think of the German yodelling maiden / ragtime pianist and Vroni will entertain with pigsong and other Bavarian delights.
Vroni and friends will introduce you to authentic Bavarian Traditions.
Fensterln, Pigsong and Yodelkunst included. Have a beer.
Expect the unexpected…
“… Vroni Holzmann got the entire crowd doing Bavarian folk dancing…”

Bavarian songs, stories and activities will be performed at various venues throughout August. As soon as dates and times are available these will be announced here.
Certainly don't miss Vroni's birthday performance on the 16th of August at the Bongo Club, just after 11pm. Her birthday is at 12am that night and she will be mighty thirsty by then, as Bavarians would be...

Soon it will be that time of the year again. With a bit of luck the clowds will part, and the sun will lure the wee piano out of its hiding place inside the orange van where it is currently patiently awaiting a visit from Bob the Piano Tuner...
The Meadows and the Royal Mile will definitely feature in Vroni's play list, but will she manage to achieve her more ambitious aims, as in performing on the beach and on top of Arthur's Seat ?
Vroni will play bavarian Tradition Songs, brought to you straight from the Bavarian and Austrian mountains. Not a performance goes by without a bit of jodelling, and watch out for big-busted cameos ...

"Vroni plays Stride" and "The Cowgate Cartoon"
Vroni plays Stride (from 9.30 pm):
'The Cross', a cyclus of Vroni Holzmann's piano compositions
This music was written to poetry by Karl Sylvester. It has been performed in a gallery context before and will have a calming and contemplative effect.
After this more serious part of the performance it will be time to cheer up with Ragtime, Stride and Boogie Woogie, compositions by Scott Joplin, George Gershwin and Fats Waller and others...
The Cowgate Cartoon (from 10.30 pm)
"...Music, Visual Arts, Spoken Word and Physical Performance, taken away from the stage, out of the gallery, off the page – and into the Urban Carnival.
People from all walks of life roll up for this theatre of the everyday.
Stories, songs, characters, pictures, games, rhythm, dance, rant and rave, slap-stick and soap-box soliloquy...
...with suspension of disbelief, create nouveau nostalgia."
The show is hosted by Will Pickvance and the Cartoon Band.
For the 13th December, there will be a Christmas theme. "
